Drama On Television

Television reaches very big and wide audience. Its use therefore is a medium to disseminate developmental information has been tried and tested and found to be effective.

The government of Ghana under the leadership of General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong in the late 1970s employed this tool efficiently and effectively. In present day Ghana, there are many people who still remember with nostalgia the “Osofo Dadzie” series that aired at 8pm on Sundays.

It is on record that they encouraged attitudinal and behavioural change on key developmental topics like conservation of energy, the hazards of nicotine inhalation or smoking, health issues (creating songs which many people of those times who had access to television sets remember and can still sing) and many more.

In 2015, Ananseman Play House laid the foundation with GTV to air TV drama series for thirty-nine (39) weeks on five (5) thematic areas of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The programmes will originally be in English but we hope to galvanise funding for us to subtitle in at least five major local Ghanaian languages; Ga, Ewe, Akan, Dagbani and Hausa.

Sustained advocacy is the surest way to getting results on behavioural change. We intend to sustain our advocacy programmes in 2016 while using the television for extensive part of our campaign in 2016 to reach a wider audience with our messages.
